👋👋👋 bye bye little float. Next stop, the abyssal waters in the depths of the Brazil Basin. The data collected will unlock important insights about salinity, temperature and depth in parts of the ocean that are difficult to reach.

Unlocking the mysteries of the deepest oceans begins with this little orange float. Where in the world will we deploy these floats, and what does the data coming from the deepest parts of our oceans tell us about the state of our changing climate? Check this: During the Mozambican Civil War close to 99% of the wildlife living in Gorongosa National Park was lost during and shortly after the war. With the park serving as a battlefield, wildlife fed soldiers and ivory bought guns. But today, Gorongosa is one of Africa's brightest spots. A recent study found that 80% of the wildlife living in the park before the war has been restored! . We're especially honored to be working with #Gorongosa to bring #EarthRanger to the park and get their rangers the #tech4good tools they need to protect Africa's most iconic animals. It's called Photo Wake-Up and it's an incredible leap forward in visual AI from students and faculty at @uofwa 's #UWAllen school. Think about using this at a museum or even something so mundane as a conference meeting. . On Friday, the school celebrated its second graduation class and we couldn't be more proud of the mission Paul charged the school with -- driving technology forward to make the world a better place. . Good morning to everyone and ESPECIALLY to this pod of Biggs (transient ) killer whales hunting off the Oregon coast. Incredible video capture from a member of a research team on the RV Rachel Carson, the University Of Washington’s oceanography research vessel. While Biggs transients are not facing the same level of threats as the southern resident orcas, they still face the dangers that come with broader ocean health issues. “The Cold Blue” isn’t only a tribute to the men who fought, but also to the filmmakers who risked it all to tell their story. For just a few hundred dollars each, men all across Southeast Asia are being sold into the fishing industry. Once at sea, these men often go months, or even years, without setting foot on land. Beaten, starved and held in cages, men are forced to work to fuel the global seafood demand.⠀ ⠀ Consumers around the world have demanded cage-free eggs and organic produce -- it's time to add slavery-free seafood to the list. #GhostFleetFilm in select theaters beginning June 7.⠀ ⠀ Link in bio to learn more.

“The communities and responders in the DRC deserve attention, assistance and support from the global community. Governments and private funders must invest at this critical juncture; it’s up to all of us to stop Ebola.” -Jody Allen • 📸 @Unicef | Gary Hubbard: An Ebola survivor cares for a one week old baby in an isolation text at the Ebola treatment center in Beni in December 2018. There are over 890 deaths due to Ebola in a small corner of the Democratic Republic of the Congo right now, so the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation quickly launched and funded some key organizations through the Ebola Response Accelerator Challenge. The Foundation’s total funding for this DRC outbreak is currently at almost $4M, with grants focusing on community engagement due to misinformation and mistrust in the region. Can our seas get by with a little help from kelp? That's what we're testing in Washington state where an increase of carbon dioxide in our waters is poisoning our oceans (a.k.a. ocean acidification ). For us, this is a big issue. The Pacific Northwest is more or less ground zero for issues associated with ocean acidification and kelp could be a game-changer. Read more, link in bio.
