What you want in a good Chromebook are the same things you want in any laptop: a good keyboard, solid build quality, long battery life, a nice screen, and enough power to do the things you want. More Chromebooks can meet those qualifications than ever before, but there’s still one that rises above the rest: The Asus Chromebook Flip C434. However, if that's not something you're interested in, the HP Chromebook X360 14 is another good option. The Apple Watch has been on a very steady trajectory: slightly better every year. The price starts at the same $399 as last year, and cellular or material upgrades will add to that cost. Compared to the Series 4, the Series 5 has only a few minor feature updates — chief among them is a new always-on screen. Compared to the rest of the smartwatch market, the Apple Watch Series 5 is in a completely different league.

In this episode of The Future of Music presented by Aloft Hotels, @danideahl talks with @charli_xcx , who has found mainstream success by releasing steady drip of singles on streaming platforms. And it works. With the rise of streaming, the way artists can release music is changing. Over half of people now listen to playlists instead of albums, and attention spans are shorter than ever. Streaming favors constant content and the traditional build up to a big album drop is becoming a relic of the past. #sponsored

The Nintendo Switch Lite is a triumphant return to dedicated handhelds. It launches on September 20th, and it’s a smaller, cheaper, and overall sleeker handheld that does away with some of the Switch’s key features in pursuit of a smaller price tag. The main difference is you can’t hook up a Switch Lite to your TV. But with the Switch Lite, Nintendo has proved something very different: it can still build one hell of a handheld. 📷 : @holowatyrose

The iPhone 11 is the phone most people who are upgrading to a new iPhone this year should get. It’s an excellent phone, with one of the best cameras we've ever seen on a smartphone and it has a terrific battery life. It has the same cameras and features as the more expensive iPhone 11 Pro, minus a telephoto, and the results are just as good. Apple’s also dropped the price by 50 bucks: the iPhone XR started at $749, but the iPhone 11 starts at $699. None of this means the iPhone 11 is a perfect phone or that it has all of the best specs and features you can get. It doesn’t. But it’s great where it counts, and it’s totally fine everywhere else. If you want to live on the bleeding edge of tech, you can spend $300 more and get an iPhone 11 Pro or look at one of the many high-end Android options available. Apple’s iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max have the best cameras on a phone; a huge improvement in battery life; bright, beautiful displays; and they come in midnight green. These are some of the most well-balanced, most capable phones Apple — or anyone — has ever made. But starting at $999, they’ll cost you. The Verge's @reckless1280 and @becca farsace break down all you need to know about about the new triple-camera system. Motorola has a second new phone for its One series, which it announced at IFA 2019: the Motorola One Zoom. It offers four rear cameras (including a 3x zoom lens that gives the phone its name ), while still hitting a fairly affordable $449.99 price point. The camera system is the standout feature but the rest of the specs are fairly impressive for a phone of this class: it has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 processor (the same as the Moto Z4 ), 4GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage, a 4,000mAh battery, and a 6.40-inch OLED display at a 19:9, 2340 x 1080 resolution with an integrated fingerprint sensor. There’s even a 3.5mm headphone jack. 📷 : @cgartenberg

So, Google made a bigger Nest Hub. The $229 Nest Hub Max is a lot like the Nest Hub, just bigger. It has a 10-inch display, more powerful speakers, and something the smaller version lacks entirely: a camera. Everything else about it is the same, from its two far-field microphones to its modern, fabric-wrapped design, to its remarkable ability to automatically adjust the screen to the lighting in your home so your photos look more like they are printed on paper than displayed on a screen. However, it’s just not quite as endearing as its smaller sibling. 📷 : @dcseifert

SteelSeries’ new Arctis 1 Wireless headset started shipping on September 3rd, and inside of its box comes a metaphorical silver bullet that will make it a must-have for Switch users, in particular: a USB-C receiver that, when plugged into the bottom of your Switch, can immediately, effortlessly stream game audio to the headset. This headset uses 2.4GHz wireless instead of Bluetooth, and the result is exactly what you’d want: there’s no noticeable lag, it doesn’t require pairing or charging, and it sounds great. 📷 : @holowatyrose

The new Apple Watch Series 5 has the one thing that many have wanted from the Apple Watch since its launch: an always-on display. . In addition to the new screen, the Series 5 adds a new titanium finish option as well as the ceramic option that was available on prior models, but disappeared for last year’s Series 4. Aside from the new always-on screen and optional finishes, the Series 5 is a dead ringer for the Series 4, with the same 40 and 44mm sizes, same size screen with rounded corners, and same Digital Crown with the ability to measure EKG readings. Of course, the ability to always see the time without having to do a convoluted arm gesture is a big deal, and it finally makes the Apple Watch a competent timepiece. The Series 5 Apple Watch is available for preorder now, and it will be hitting stores on September 20th. We’ll have more impressions to share, including how much the always-on display affects battery life, in our forthcoming review. Video by @vjeranp & @mariya_101

Apple unveiled the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max with a triple-camera system. They’re upgrades to last year’s iPhone XS and XS Max phones, respectively, but with a new camera system that upgrades the old sensors and adds a third, ultra-wide camera with a 120-degree depth of field. Obviously, Apple is very good at lighting its hands-on areas, so we haven’t had a chance to really test the cameras. But we did play with the new camera interface a bit, and it’s great. When you’re in the standard “wide” zoom, the viewfinder fills the whole screen, so you can more easily see what mode you’re in. Unfortunately, we weren't able to test out Night mode, but the camera was fast to open and even faster to take shots. In all, the iPhone 11 Pro is an excellent, well-made, and impressive iPhone. But all of Apple’s arguments about what makes this “Pro” compared to the regular iPhone 11 will need to be borne out in the review. The iPhone 11 Pro will start at $999, and the iPhone 11 Pro Max will start at $1199. Follow the link in our bio for @backlon ’s complete first-look. Video by @vjeranp & @mariya_101

The minimalist Light Phone returns with many aspirations and not too many features. But will this new version make a real splash? The Light Phone 2, which will retail for $350, measures less than four inches in length, weighs 78 grams, and comes in two colors (black and light gray ). It has a 2.84-inch E Ink touch display, Bluetooth capabilities, and a battery that supports two hours of talk time and 13 days standby. It works with every major network apart from Sprint, and features hot spot and tethering capabilities. At launch, the phone will only have three “tools”: calls, texting, and an alarm. Ride-share, directions, and music tools are in the works. 📷 : @holowatyrose

Samsung has fixed the hinge and display issues on its Galaxy Fold. Back in April, the devices failed for multiple reviewers, and Samsung has made some key hardware changes to the protective film and hinge that should prevent dust and debris from damaging the display. Samsung has now extended the protective film to under the bezels of the device so you can no longer peel it off. We tried to peel it off multiple times and failed, as it’s beyond the bezel and impossible to get your fingernails close to. The other big change is that the display now has plastic protection caps at the bottom and top that further block debris from getting underneath it. These are noticeable when you unfold the device, but they should hopefully help stop dirt from getting in the hinge and causing issues. The $1,980 phone will be available on September 18th in France, Germany, Singapore, and the UK, but Samsung hasn’t revealed an exact date for the US yet. Clouds are complex, elusive, and the greatest source of uncertainty about how hot the Earth will get in response to carbon dioxide. They are a major part of the reason why scientists give predictions about future climate as a range. It’s a margin of error that runs from bad to catastrophic: the difference between billions more people subjected to deadly heat, between damaged coral reefs and the end of them, between the inundation of not just Miami but of Osaka, Shanghai, Kolkata. Computers capable of simulating future climate at cloud-scale won’t be available for decades, if then. To help solve the cloud problem, researchers must gather more data on clouds in the wild, but it is extremely difficult and dangerous to do. Last year, we travelled to a region in Argentina notorious for frequent intense thunderstorms. We followed 60 researchers as they chased one of the most violent clouds, the cumulonimbus, the thunderhead, from birth to death. Visit the link in our bio to follow the storm chasers as they try solve one of climate change’s biggest mysteries. Video by Clayton Eveland.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 is the smaller of the two Note models released this year, which means there is a different set of expectations for what it can be. Much of the Note 10 is the same as its bigger sibling: it has the same processor, the same S Pen stylus, the same software, the same angular design and premium feel, and the same camera system. The difference is that it’s smaller, with a 6.3-inch display compared to the 10 Plus’ gargantuan 6.8-inch screen. But for $949.99, it’s little more than an S10 with an S Pen. To read our full review, follow the link in our bio. 📷 : @holowatyrose

How many steps have you taken today? Are you sure? How do you know? One inescapable fact about fitness bands and smartwatches is that they lie. These devices can either undercount or overcount the number of steps you take in a day. Also, your counts can differ widely depending on which brand you’re using. To make your fitness tracker count steps more accurately, read the manual to ensure you're using it correctly. Secure it tightly to your nondominant wrist to avoid false steps. And if you're a stickler for details, log your before and after step counts when you spend a long period of time sitting or doing some other non-walking activity. These measures will help ensure that your fitness tracker counts your steps more accurately. 📷 : @vjeranp

The Osmo Action looks a hell of a lot like a GoPro. It has the same dark, boxy shape with a lens on the left. Around back, as with the Hero7, is a touchscreen display. The Osmo’s is a wider 16:9 screen (the Hero7’s is 4:3 ), which gives you a larger image. The biggest physical difference is that the Osmo Action has a screen on the front of the camera, too. It’s a small, 1.4-inch square, so you can’t see a ton, but it’s generally good enough to see if your silhouette is in frame or not. Definitely handy. The DJI Osmo Action price is also $50 cheaper than the Hero7 Black. 📷 : Brent Rose

The Amazon Echo Auto is Alexa in your car, and perhaps the most impressive home for Amazon’s voice assistant yet. But it’s better thought of as a voice launcher for music or a Bluetooth to 3.5mm audio adapter that happens to have Amazon’s smart assistant as a bonus feature, given all the frustrations. But the real problem with Echo Auto today isn’t the mountain of minor frustrations — it’s that today’s smartphones, not to mention Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, set a bar that Amazon isn’t bothering to clear. 📷 : @vjeranp

There are lots of smart gadgets that track running, but few track swimming the way the Form Swim Goggles do. The $199 Swim Goggles have an AR display that is genuinely useful, and they're great at tracking. They're only meant for serious swimmers because they're pricey and designed for lap swimming. If you’re a serious swimmer — swimming competitively, training for a triathlon, or you just take your everyday workout seriously — the Form Swim Goggles are a great option for you. The RadWagon from Seattle-based Rad Power Bikes is an electric cargo bike. It is the first legitimate car replacement that Verge senior transportation reporter Andrew Hawkins encountered in his (admittedly ) short time testing and reviewing e-bikes. The RadWagon mostly replaced the need for a car over his month of testing. He used it to take his kids to school, commute to work, and go grocery shopping. Meanwhile, his car gathered dust. And $1,499 is a surprisingly good price considering the powerful battery and motor, intuitive controls, and the amount of space it has for kids and cargo. It's not for everyone, though: it's heavy, the orange color isn't ideal, and it has an ugly external battery. But given the price, would you be willing to replace your car with this bike? 📷 : @holowatyrose
