It’s not ok to wake up 7 times during the night or to have trouble falling asleep. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Common? Yes. Ok? No.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Our bodies are actually meant to shut down, get sleepy, turn off, zone out for the night, then wake up feeling refreshed in the morning.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When is the last time THAT happened for you? As normal as that should be, it’s almost a foreign concept to most. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But if you really can’t sleep, you’ve got something goin on. Lack of sleep is just a symptom to a deeper problem. So let’s dig. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You could be having blood sugar control issues in the middle of the night, your body could be under a lot of stress and inflammation, you could have nutrient deficiencies or hormonal imbalances, or the obvious - too much caffeine!!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A few tips to try out - lmk if any of these work for you:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -make sure you’re eating PHFF at every meal to keep blood sugar balanced, but be aware of eating a lot of protein at night (like a late night steak dinner ) bc protein really revs up your metabolism. Cool in the AM, not so cool before bed 😂⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -Make sure you’re eating enough/you’re not eating a big calorie deficit. This will cause your blood sugar to dip in the night and wake you up.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -Vitamin D and Magnesium deficiency can affect sleep - get your levels tested and supp if needed (magnesium is one MOST ppl are deficient in and it’s safe to take even if levels are normal ).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -Get your circadian rhythm in check. Wear blue light blockers in the evening if on your phone or computer and get plenty of sunlight (esp first thing in the AM ).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -Don’t even look at caffeine a minimum of 6 hours before bed.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -Create a relaxing nighttime routine and include reading (not on your phone plz 😂 ) to wind down.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -blackout lights, sleep mask, sound machine. This makes a HUGE difference. No one is gonna break in and kill you in the night so just do it. And honestly if they are, it’s highly unlikely you’ll escape anyways 😂⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Tag your friends who are shitty sleepers. And don’t forget...Metabolism Makeover enrollment is open.

Self-care is VITAL to your health, happiness, relationships - you name it. I look at self-care a lot different now though. .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Pregnancy has been a giant slap to my reality. I don’t slow down. I am the queen of powering through. No sleep? Whatever that’s what caffeine is for, I’ve got shit to do. .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is the first time in my life I’ve had no choice. The smallest things wipe me out. My whole body still hurts when I get up in the morning. 0% chance I even wake up before 9 AM. Yet: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -I still have a business to run now and through the rest of 2019 when I’m taking time off. -There are still employees to pay. -I still own a restaurant that never sleeps. -My DMs and text messages (and probably email, I try not to look at that ) are a black hole 😂 -I’m genuinely unprepared for just about everything I have coming up 😂 .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ BUT!! .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’ve also had the biggest group of women thus far go through August’s Metabolism Makeover. I hired 3 people this summer (and they are THE SHIT ). My baby looks as healthy as can be. I got to take a trip w my baby daddy @blacksheepak I’ve been putting together something new for you guys come 2020 that I’ve been wanting to do for 2 years now (so so excited ). NA is running smoother than ever. .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Despite life being an absolute shit show, making ME a priority every single day is the reason everything around me is still flourishing and not burning to the ground. So I wanted to share a few things I’ve been doing that doesn’t include going to the spa or spending a lot of time: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1. I don’t set an alarm. 2. I’ve been incorporating a “Miracle Morning” every day (google it ). 3. Daily walks even if they’re v short. 4. More ice cream. 5. Getting my car detailed (makes me feel RICH ). 6. Staying hydrated. 7. Going to Trader Joe’s instead of ordering my groceries. 8. Ignoring text messages (sorry friends and family LOL ) 9. Nightly baths. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is a Sunday night reminder to take care of yourself this week, not just on #SelfCareSunday - it’s far more important than you think.

4 WAYS TO MAKE YOUR METABOLISM MORE EFFICIENT. . MEGANNNNN MY METABOLISM IS BROKEN!! Girl stop, your metabolism took a vacation because it was sick of you giving it the shaft 😂😂 . Lemme give you some examples (you probably had no idea these were making your metabolism less efficient ) 1. High calorie burn workout classes, long bouts of cardio, marathon training. When you start to consistently burn 500-1000 calories regularly during exercise, your body adapts and expects it every single day. 2. A 1200 calorie diet. This is not enough for a grown ass woman unless you’re very petite and sedentary. Again, your body will adapt and it’ll expect those low calories every day. 3. Over time, you begin to have to do MORE cardio and eat LESS to see results. This will result in either a plateau or weight gain or going insane 😂 . So, how do we pop off this train and make our metabolism work FOR us, not against us? 1. SLOWLY decrease your long cardio sessions. Doing Orange Theory 5 days/week? Try 4 this week. Get yourself down to 1-2 sessions/week - MAX. 2. SLOWLY add more food if you know you’re not eating enough. Easy way to do this is just making sure you’re eating at least 1 serving of fat, protein, and plenty of fiber at each meal + 1-3 starchy carbs in your day. 3. Incorporate resistance training. Muscle = more fat burn. The correlation is direct and a no brained. 4. Relax. Getting enough sleep and managing stress is more important for your metabolic function than you will ever believe. Seriously, I know you guys don’t believe me so I just keep repeating it 😂 Personally I’ve been reading Miracle Morning recently and it’s solid gold for the stress management part! . Let’s say that every day you track your calories in My Fitness Pal and you shoot for 1300 calories a day bc you wanna lose a few lbs.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Let’s say you actually do this successfully (which is unlikely cuz you’ll get hangryyyyy but whatever ) for 1 year. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ According to the good old calories in, calories out theory, you’d lose 73 lbs putting you at 82 lbs.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Now, no one would actually do this but I want you to think about whether or not this is really even possible (were not crossing into anorexia territory so just table that ).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s not. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s time to play the long game, ladies. I have absolutely no interest in weight loss. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If we’re not talking fat loss, count me out. So, you’re looking to lose 15+ lbs in 30 days, please do not consider joining the 30-Day Metabolism Makeover.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is a little aggressive, I get that. But rapid weight loss (and tbh I never like women to lose more than 10 lbs in the 30 days - that’s my max ) is not playing the long game. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s not doing things that set you up for the future. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Focusing on your metabolism, not your calories, is playing the long game. When your metabolism is functioning at an optimal level, you are able to achieve metabolic flexibility. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This means that when you go to the beach for the weekend and binge White Claws and guac, you don’t see the scale fly off the charts when you get home. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This means you can go to dinner and consume a lot more calories in a day than you normally do and be just fine. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This means you can eat MORE every single day because news flash - eating 1300 calories a day every day is *not* normal for 99% of grown women. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ First rule of The Nutrition Addiction: don’t talk about calories. But really, let’s talk about calories for a sec bc I know it speaks your language.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Most of you should be able to eat 2000 calories a day without gaining weight. Yes yes I know, this all depends on your height/muscle mass/etc but generally speaking, you should be able to eat a lot more than you are probably currently eating.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So, how do you get there? By eating. You’ve gotta put gas in the tank to let it burn, man. By sleeping. You’ve gotta repair and reset - you’re not fucking Superman so quit acting like it. By focusing on workouts that promote a metabolic boost instead of a calorie deficit. By tackling inflammation like it’s more important than weight loss (IT!! IS!! ). ARE YOU BLOATED? DO YA POOP ONLY A COUPLE TIMES A WEEK? DO YOU FEEL PREGSIE EVERY TIME YOU EAT CERTAIN FOODS? SKIN GOING CRAZY EVEN THOUGH YOURE A DAMN ADULT? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Sounds like a gut issue, sis. So listen up, because if your gut is leaky, and you’re trying to drop fat, id be willing to bet you’re having a tough time. It’s tough to lose fat with a leaky gut and all the inflammation that comes with it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So, what can you do? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1. REMOVE. You’ve gotta get rid of anything that’s causing the damage in the first place. If you know what bothers you (gluten and dairy are common offenders ), cut it out. If you’re clueless, you may need a good sensitivity test. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2. REPAIR. Add gut healing foods and supplements to your diet. Bone broth, collagen, probiotics, probiotics, and glutamine are my favs. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3. REJUVENATE. You must take care of yourself while repairing your gut. You have GOT to sleep enough, reduce your stress (which btw could very well be the cause of your unhealthy gut ), and go easy on exercise. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Why go easy on exercise? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Because overexercising is stressful and you’re healing. And it’s possible that it’s causing a ton of inflammation so you may be surprised when you cut back. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What’s funny is that even though I’m 7 months pregnant, my digestion and 💩 is the best it’s been in YEARS. Why? Cuz it’s forced me to slow down, sleep more, release some stress, workout less, and just overall take care of my body better (plus taking a new probiotic @justthrivehealth that is 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 ) . Personally, I’ve been using @furtherfood chocolate Collagen Peptides + Reishi mushroom lately. (Go to my Favorites highlight - I’ll link it )⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2. PLATEAUS. ARE. THE. WORST!!! So, whatcha gonna do when they come for you? (If you have a significant amount of weight to lose, they will come for you 😂 )⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Well, you know me. I need you to know WHY you’ve hit a plateau in the first so this all makes sense.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1. HOMEOSTASIS. Your body always wants to be in a state of equilibrium. It hates change. Loves safety. And comfort. And warm fuzzies.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2. YOU'RE NOT EATING ENOUGH. Low-calorie diets WILL help you lose weight inititally, but here's the deal. If you want your metabolism to burn like hot flames, you have to feed it. If you want your tank of gas to take you 300 miles, you have to put gas in your damn tank.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3. YOU'VE LOWERED YOUR METABOLIC RATE. This is what happens when you don't eat enough bc your body starts to sloooowww down. You've gotta eat - and you've gotta eat the right foods that fuel you.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 4. YOU'RE DOING THE WRONG WORKOUT. I'm going to be super blunt here. If you are trying to reduce your body fat and you've hit a plateau, you absolutely need to be lifting weights. Not 3 lbs dumbbells. But something that is going to challenge you and help you build muscle.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 5. YOU NEED TO SWITCH IT UP. This goes back to our bodies not loving change, and the solution here is to shock it into something different.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Been running 10 miles a week? Stop cold turkey and hit the weights for a week instead - see what happens. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Been doing oatmeal and a green juice for breakfast every day? It’s not intense. Its not expensive. It’s really kinda boring. You won’t burn fat effectively on less than 7 hours of sleep.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “But Megan! I seriously try. I just don’t sleep well. It’s been a struggle forever. I’m just not a good sleeper.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I get that, but there are a few things I see over and over in those who suck at sleep so let’s see if I can’t help.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1. You like a little wine before bed. If your blood sugar drops too low because of a spike and crash from that glass of vino before bed, your body releases stress hormones to bring your blood glucose back up. This is why you don’t sleep well when you drink.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2. You’re not eating enough carbs. Unless you’re in an actual state of ketosis, eating too few carbs can disturb your sleep. Your blood sugar may drop too low and your body will wake you up to “save” you. My advice? Add a high fiber starch to your dinner.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3. Blue light is majoring disrupting your sleep patterns. I know I know! Turning your phone and tv off at night seems impossible. At least get yourself some HIGH QUALITY blue light blockers. Blue light inhibits the secretion of melatonin, a hormone that sends the signal to your body that it’s time to go to sleep, so this is a must!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 4. You’re deficient in magnesium. And this is SUPER common! IDFWU. I do though, actually. I see you. Everyday. 😍 . I know many you want to see a big sweeping changes in your bodies and your health, like, yesterday. I read your messages. I screen shot everyone of your responses to my questions in stories. . You give up if you don’t lose 5 lbs in the first 2 weeks. You say fck it when you miss your workout 2 days in a row. You throw your day out the window when you eat a cookie after the *perfect PHFF* lunch. . But what’s so important...So. Vitally. Important. Is that you 🛑 to enjoy this process instead of hating it. Or you will never see sustainable results. . Have the stupid cookie, dude. Whatever. Don’t have it everyday. Don’t have it if it’s a nasty dried out grocery store cookie. Don’t have it if it doesn’t sound good. But if you do have it, what if instead of getting down on yourself for throwing off your diet, you said “wow it’s so incredible that I can feel good about eating an occasional warm chocolate chip cookie and know that it’s not going to do a damn thing to the scale this week as long as I don’t eat 30 more cookies like I used to.” . Or what if when you skip 2 days of workouts, you say, “I feel SO rested, my body definitely needed that. Can’t wait to kill my workout tomorrow.” . This is the bigger lesson I’ve learned over the years when it comes to my health, my weight, and my body. And it’s something I’ve come to appreciate even more in pregnancy. Enjoy the process. Have fun eating in a way that makes you feel good. Get excited for you workouts and your rest days. Look forward to restoring your body though sleep. If you focus on loving yourself and this process instead of hating it and fighting it, it will change everything. Including the end result. . READ IF LOVE A GOOD STIFF DRINK ON A FRIDAY. . Twice yesterday after meeting a couple random people (my hygienist and a friend of a friend ) and talking about what I do was I asked, “but can I still drink?” . It’s actually one of my most commonly asked questions about the 30-Day Metabolism Makeover. (Which is hilarious - love my people 😂😂 ) . Which is why it’s just mind boggling to me that almost every other program restricts it. Hear me out - if you cut something totally out of your diet that you enjoy consuming regularly (alcohol, carbs, cheese ), you lose weight, you add those foods back in, wtf do you think is gonna happen? . I mean, I know there are a lot of programs that teach you how to “reintroduce foods” or whatever but whenever I see those I think LAWD you just put me on a restrictive diet for 30 days and now I have to meticulously add foods back in over the next 2 months? Are you fckin nuts? JUST LET A LADY LIVE. . (Being detailed and meticulous about anything sort of feels like what I would imagine it would feel like to be waterboarded so this was never even a consideration for anything I wanted to build. ) . Anyways. I’m gonna hit you with some of my top tips for happy hour tonight and you lmk which ones you’re going use. . 1. Alcohol isn’t really stored as fat so don’t obsess over counting those calories. Sugar is, though, so focus on protein and healthy fat over carbs a few hours before and after your cocktails. 2. Ask for no sugar, no agave, no honey, no simple syrup. You don’t need it. Order your margarita w tequila, lime, Cointreau - that’s it. Thank me later. 3. Don’t go into happy hour hungry. Alcohol lowers inhibitions so you’re pretty much screwed if you think you’re just gonna skip dinner. Have something filling like a small PHFF smoothie before or a bunless burger or some turkey and cheese roll-ups. . Love the P (not penis, ur dirty lol ) love the HF, but I love the F the most. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Fiber is your secret weapon. Here’s just a few reasons why: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1. Expands in your stomach so you feel full longer, and more quickly. 2. Puts a halt on sugar cravings by keeping blood sugar super steady. 3. Keeps body in fat-burning mode (again, by keeping blood sugar steady and insulin spikes at bay ). 4. Feeds healthy gut bacteria. Prebiotics are so 🔥 right now, right? Guess what - fiber IS a prebiotic. 5. Helps keep a healthy digestive system rollin. 💩 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Some of my favorite high-fiber foods are chia seeds (2 Tbsp = 11 g fiber in your smoothies or chia puddings!!! ), avocados (YEP - like 5g for 1/2 avo ), lentils, @banza pastas and rice, and any non-starchy veggie. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you’re struggling to meet your daily fiber quota (at LEAST 25g ), I also love love love adding acacia fiber to my coffee, smoothies - I even stir it into eggs sometimes. @nowfoodsofficial brand has no taste and stirs right in. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Fiber (plus a GOOD probiotic - been loving @thriveprobiotic ) has been 👑 to keeping me regular this pregnancy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Are you getting enough fiber?? STRESS IS A HARD NO WHEN IT COMES TO A HIGH FUNCTIONING METABOLISM.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I addressed this last week and was flooded with questions about how to reduce stress. I am not an expert as stress is probably my own #1 worst enemy when it comes to my health BUT this also means I work hard at it and I do have some tricks up my sleeve.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Exercise: This is my #1 - I don’t care if it’s just going for a walk, you need to move your body. Studies show that people who exercise at least 2-3 times a week experience significantly less depression, anger, and stress than those who don’t. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ DARK DARK Chocolate: The flavanols in dark chocolate enhance your brain function and lower stress hormones, making you feel more focused and calm. Make a smoothie for breakfast. This ain’t your average smoothie tho. This one is keeping you full til lunch. just remember you need a serving of protein (lots of good, clean proteins powders on the market these days ), 1-2 Tbsp healthy fat like cashew butter or peanut butter, 1-2 Tbsp fiber (my fav combo is 1 Tbsp chia seeds, 1 Tbsp acacia fiber ), unsweetened nut milk, greens, and no more than 1/2 c frozen fruit.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2. Fast for 12-14 hours overnight. This is a nifty little trick to give digestion a break. Your body will also start pumping out glucagon, our fav fat burning hormone. YAY. This is easy - stop eating a few hours before bed, eat breakfast a couple hours after you wake up.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3. Make sure there are at least 4 hours between each meal. Every time u eat u spike your insulin, putting your body into fat storing mode. That’s ok. We need to eat 😂 but we don’t need to eat every 2 hours. If your meals don’t last you that long, you’re not eating enough. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ That’s it. Just those 3 things will make a massive difference in the way you feel...and look. YOU’RE METABOLISM ISN’T SLOW CUZ UR GETTING OLD, ITS BC OF THESE 3 THINGS YOU’RE DOING WRONG.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1. You’re Stressed. Chronic stress leads to chronically elevated cortisol (read: belly fat ), it can disrupt your thyroid, it can break down muscle tissue (which decreases metabolism ) and it can lead to gut permeability which leads to inflammation which leads to...weight gain. Slow down. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2. You’re doing too much cardio. Too much cardio, or super hard, long workouts every day, is causing a lot of inflammation which decreases your metabolic rate. You can make your metabolism TOO effective in that your body may get used to burning an extra 800 calories a day so when you take a break, it’s like you’re starting the day with 800 calories down already. Building muscle does not do this which is why I prefer it over cardio any day.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3. You’re not sleeping 7-9 hours a night. But megan! I feel fine on 6 hours! Don’t care. It’s not enough time for your body produce the amount of leptin and ghrelin (satiety and hunger hormones! ) you need to properly regulate your intake and hunger. THE LAZIEST MEALS ARE FANCY AF DURING THE SUMMER.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Seriously at what other time of year can you get away w a macaroni salad (made w homemade mayo LOL, Greek yogurt, veggies, and herbs ) at a snazzy dinner party? Contrary to popular belief, I actually think it's EASIER to stay healthy and motivated in the summer. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I know, I know, there's a billion sporting events going on, you're running the kids all over creation, it's the most travel-heavy time of year, the parties, the BBQs, etc etc. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But you can *totally* get away with the easiest, breeziest meals during the summer. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And because produce, in particular, tastes so good this time of year...you don't have to do much to it to throw together impressive meals. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Here’s your formula: big simple salad w spring greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, fresh mozzarella, and vinaigrette + a simple grilled protein + grilled veggies and/or some baby potatoes (OR A MAC SALAD ).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You could have the whole hood over w that move.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Need more inspo and would rather have your week totally planned out WITH grocery lists? NURSES. BARTENDERS. RESTAURANT MANAGERS. FIRST RESPONDERS. SHIFT WORKERS. Listen up. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You have this whole “healthy lifestyle” thing a lot tougher than the rest of us. Because of your crazy schedules, stressful jobs, and lack of sleep and consistency (and if you’re a bar/resto worker - all the added shots behind the bar 😂 yeah I Bartended for years I know what’s up ), you don’t have a lot of wiggle room before your body turns into a serious hot mess express. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ that lack of sleep and disruption in your circadian rhythm can lead to major hormone disruptions, a suppressed metabolism, blood sugar control issues, and a suppressed immune system. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So it’s VERY important to prioritize sleep when you can, and support those systems in your body that can be compromised as much as you can. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So, here are some tips: 1. Supplement. You need it. Magnesium, zinc, a B-complex, vitamin D, and a solid omega-3 is really important. (Peep my amazon store or website for my fav brands ) An adrenal support complex isn’t a bad idea, either! 2. If you’re able, wear blue light blocking glasses if you work overnight under fluorescent lights. 3. Use an eye mask, a sound machine, ear plugs, black out blinds - whatever you need to imitate sleeping in the dark. 4. Bring snacks/meals with you. Your options late night are no good, let’s be real. A little meal prep goes a long way and you’ll have more energy when you need it most. 5. Guzzle water like a boss. Bring a water bottle to work with you and stay super hydrated. 6. Taking a sleeping pill isn’t an option if you can’t get a full 8 hours. Magnesium citrate (like Natural Calm ) or a gentle sleep agent like Unisom ( @blacksheepak swears by this! ) can help you relax after a crazy night and fall asleep without making you drowsy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Tag your shift friends and please lmk what tips I’m missing!
