They see me rollin....lol. The Houston Museum of Natural Science has a cool display of Apollo Lunar Rover tires- the coolest of any I’ve seen. 🚀👩🏼‍🚀🌕 . . Not only is there this cool wall mount with LRV tires, but they have another one with the steering mechanism on display so you can try your hand at navigating. . . . Did you know that only the last three Apollo missions used Moon buggies ( and all three had to be left behind )? Next time I’ll tell you about the onboard navigation systems the rover had! . . #Apollo #spacehistory #space #Houston #writerslife #chicagoblogger #Chicagowriter #chicagogrammers #worklife #dayinthelife #mylife #journalism #femaletravelbloggers #mystory #space #Travellife #igtravel #moonbuggy #HMNHMoon #Texas #proudtobeFTB #lunarrover #spaceexploration #NASA #Astronauts

Glowing Jet from a Young Star Credit: ESA/Hubble & NASA. Acknowledgement: Gilles Chapdelaine Aloha, there is a situation I would like to make known to you all. - You've probably heard that the TIO has submitted a lease permit for the Canary Islands but don't doubt their desire to still want Mauna Kea for TMT. Governor Ige has extended the TMT lease two years (2021 ). Canada's involvement in TMT is both through government and private industry. Their are two critical components Canada is supplying TMT, the adaptive optics system (NFIRAOS ) and the Calotte dome enclosure. Without AO which allows the telescope to see past our atmosphere and the dome which protects the telescope, TMT can't operate. - For the first time in Canada we have a Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, who is taking indigenous rights more seriously. In a statement on indigenous rights Justin Trudeau said the following: - "The Government of Canada must make the recognition and implementation of rights the basis for all relations between Indigenous Peoples and the federal government." - https://pm.gc.ca/en/news/news-releases/2018/02/14/government-canada-create-recognition-and-implementation-rights - This should apply to the rights of Hawaiians in the handling of the TMT construction on Mauna Kea and the Government of Canada's involvement through the National Research Council. - So please, let our Prime Minister know how you feel. Ask him to support the relocation of TMT on a site that does not conflict with indigenous peoples. 08-17-2019 1901 Photograph: The Orion Nebula By the turn of the 20th century advances in photography contributed an important tool for astronomers. Improving photographic materials, long exposures, and new telescope designs produced astronomical images with details not visible at the telescopic eyepiece alone. Remarkably recognizable to astrophotographers today, this stunning image of the star forming Orion Nebula was captured in 1901 by American astronomer and telescope designer George Ritchey. The original glass photographic plate, sensitive to green and blue wavelengths, has been digitized and light-to-dark inverted to produce a positive image. His hand written notes indicate a 50 minute long exposure that ended at dawn and a reflecting telescope aperture of 24 inches masked to 18 inches to improve the sharpness of the recorded image. Ritchey's plates from over a hundred years ago preserve astronomical data and can still be used for exploring astrophysical processes. When Mauna Kea was chosen as its site. - "The University of Toronto, and I believe others, have conveyed to the Association of Canadian Universities for Research in Astronomy (ACURA ) that their institutional values are quite fundamentally opposed to the construction and operation of research facilities through police and military force." (Dr. Raymond Carlberg, July 29, 2019 ) - "The University of Toronto does not condone the use of police force in furthering its research objectives. I have conveyed these views through ACURA, which represents the Canadian academic astronomy community in this project. We know through our own Canadian experience that a commitment to Truth and Reconciliation impels us to consult and engage with Indigenous communities and to work collaboratively towards change. We must work to uphold those principles as we engage with Indigenous communities beyond our borders as well as within them." Here is a question for you! Which Space Shuttle is this? But before you answer, it's not Atlantis, Endeavour, Columbia, Challanger or Discovery. Maybe you think it's Enterprise but it's not. This Space Shuttle "Independence", a full size replica built to a high standard in 1993 using NASA blueprints. It was originally named “Explorer” and was displayed at the Kennedy Space Centre, Florida, from 1993 to 2012, when it was replaced by the Orbiter Atlantis. It was then transferred by barge to the Lyndon B Johnson Space Centre where you can see it today. "Space travel leading to skylife is vital to human survival, because the question is not whether we will be hit by an asteroid, but when. A planetary culture that does not develop spacefaring is courting suicide. All our history, all our social progress and growing insight will be for nothing if we perish. No risk of this kind, however small it might be argued to be, is worth taking, and no cost to prevent it is too great. No level of risk is acceptable when it comes to all or nothing survival." - Gregory Benford and George Zebrowski, 'Skylife: Space Habitats in Story and Science', 2000 #space #spaceexploration #spacestation #Moon #Mars #asteroid Image credit: SpaceX | SpaceX Starship currently under development

NASA astronaut Bruce McCandless during the first untethered spacewalk in history. In this photograph taken on February 7, 1984 by his fellow crewmembers aboard the Earth-orbiting Space Shuttle Challenger on the STS-41B mission, McCandless II approaches his maximum distance (100 meters ) from the vehicle. McCandless became the first astronaut to maneuver about in space untethered, during this first "field" tryout of a nitrogen-propelled, hand-controlled backpack device called the Manned Maneuvering Unit. Not long afterward, NASA discontinued such actions and decided to perform only tethered spacewalks for safety reasons. Image by @nasa

Saturn S-IVB second stage after seperation. - On October 11th, 1968, Apollo 7 lifted off from Launch Complex 34 at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. In the first crewed mission of the Apollo Program, the primary objective was to measure crew performance in a Command and Service Module, also known as CSM. Another objective was to validate space vehicle and mission support facilities performance during a crewed CSM mission and CSM rendezvous capability. Here, the expended Saturn S-IVB second stage is photographed from the Apollo 7 spacecraft during transportation and docking maneuvers. The Saturn rockets were developed at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center. Today, Marshall is developing NASA's Space Launch System. - -------------------------------------------------- ✔️ Like and share! 🛰️ ✔️ Follow @spaceiac for more! 🚀 -------------------------------------------------- - - Credit: @nasa -

It just takes one partner to change their mind, let it be Canada. - Twitter @JustinTrudeau Instagram @justinpjtrudeau - Official Contact https://pm.gc.ca/en/connect/contact - TMT Canadian Board Member greg.fahlman @nrc -cnrc.gc.ca - For Hawaiians Perspective  http://kanaeokana.net #space #discovery #hubbletelescope #astronomy #canada #toronto #3northstarscan #love #sacred #spaceexploration #spacetelescope #vancouver #trudeauhelpmaunakea #protectmaunakea #gregstoptmtmaunakea #kūkia ’imauna #maunaready #maunamajority #aloha #maunakea #alohaaina #aoletmt #kapualoha #hawaii #justintrudeau #cbc #radiocanada

A Nebula Credit: NASA, ESA, Andrew Fruchter (STScI ), and the ERO team (STScI + ST-ECF ) Aloha, there is a situation I would like to make known to you all. - You've probably heard that the TIO has submitted a lease permit for the Canary Islands but don't doubt their desire to still want Mauna Kea for TMT. Governor Ige has extended the TMT lease two years (2021 ). Canada's involvement in TMT is both through government and private industry. 1901 Photograph: The Orion Nebula Explanation: By the turn of the 20th century advances in photography contributed an important tool for astronomers. “For All Mankind”, Neil Armstrong suiting up for the historic flight of Apollo 11. I wanted to get this done and posted by July 20th, on the actual 50th Anniversary, but it took me a little longer to finish than expected. This is my homage to Neil, the crew of Apollo 11, NASA and the great artist Paul Calle, who was there drawing the crew as they suited up on July 16th, 1969. It was a fun, challenging piece but I loved every minute of it. Charcoal pencil on Canson Smooth Bristol, 18x24. As the plaque on the Lunar Lander reads: “Here Men from the Planet Earth First Set Foot Upon the Moon. July 1969 AD. We Came in Peace for All Mankind”. And so they did! #nasa #neilarmstrong #moonlanding50 #apollo11 #apolloprogram #astronaut #spaceart #paulcalle #charcoalportrait #portraitdrawing #artoninstagram #artoftheday #pencildrawing #charcoalpencil #charcoal #spaceprogram #onesmallstep #cansonpaper #bristolpaper #artistsoninstagram #onegiantleap #artwork #art #artist #portraiture #illustration #realism #contemporaryrealism #spaceexploration #nasabeyond
