A mokoro is a type of canoe commonly used in the Okavango Delta, Botswana. It is propelled through the shallow waters of the delta by standing in the stern and pushing with a pole. It takes patience and extreme balance! It was an amazing experience!

Sharpened claws and strong paws keep this young lion from tumbling to the ground. Lion cubs can easily get themselves into trouble, as their constant play pushes boundaries and keeps them investigating. Play is essential to a growing cat. It hones those hunting instincts and slowly teaches them how to become a predator. But there are plenty of instances where dignity may take a spill—along with a young lion that misjudged its climbing ability. #littlebigcats #okavangolions #importanceofplay #predatorintraining #nature_up_close #naturesky #shot_4_spot #lion

With complete focus on the task ahead, she stealthy traversed her way down the branch. The sun was setting, night fall would soon come, then it would be time to hunt. . An incredibly special sighting of this stunning leopard at the @wearewilderness safari lodge, Savuti in Botswana 🐆 . Leopards are my all time favourite animals & I am so honoured to have seen them in the wild during the many years I have worked in the photographic safari world in Africa 🌍 . What’s your favourite animal & have you had any special sightings or encounters? . . . . . #julietlemonphotography #putneyphotographer #putneywildlifephotographer #wildernesssafarisbotswana #wildernesssafaris #okavangodelta #okavangolions #botswanasafari #visitbotswana #maunbotswana #leopardsighting #leopard #jetsetjuliet #savuti #savuticamp #intotheokavango

Treating you to this spotty kitty as the third post in my little African wildlife collection 🐆 . Leopards are my all time favourite cats, so elusive, stealth & strong. It is always such a thrill to see a leopard in the wild & it certainly isn’t easy. It takes great skills to know how to read the rights of the Bush from spotting spore or hearing alarm calls of other animals. . . . . . #julietlemonphotography #putneyphotographer #putneywildlifephotographer #wildernesssafarisbotswana #wildernesssafaris #okavangodelta #okavangolions #botswanasafari #visitbotswana #maunbotswana #atkinsonsafaris #leopardsighting #leopard #jetsetjuliet #intotheokavango

Sunset in the Okavango Delta 🌍 . With my previous post being for World Lion Day, I have to be in keeping with my 3 post theme consistency here with my Insta tiles which provides me with a perfect excuse to share another wildlife photo I took whilst on safari in Botswana 📸 . I was with @atkinson_photography_safaris & we had stopped for a sundowner g&t (of course ) to enjoy whilst watching the setting sun 🌅 . This little dragonfly conveniently perched on a twig long enough for me to capture this silhouette against the setting sun 📸 . . . . . #julietlemonphotography #putneyphotographer #putneywildlifephotographer #wildernesssafarisbotswana #wildernesssafaris #okavangodelta #okavangolions #botswanasafari #visitbotswana #maunbotswana #atkinsonsafaris #dragonfly #wildlifesilhouette #jetsetjuliet #intotheokavango

Yesterday was World Lion Day 🦁 . I have been fortunate enough to see these magnetic creatures in the wild & this is a photo I took in Botswana whilst on safari with @wearewilderness 🌍 . Since the launch of Disney's The Lion King in 1994, lion populations have declined by half. This World Lion Day, make a difference and spread the word on lion conservation to protect this species from future extinction 🦁 . I’ve taken a lot of intense low angle shots from underneath the car of elephants and wild dogs… And every now and than I had enough Dutch courage to do the same with lions. But when a male lion, in the prime of his life, locks his eyes on you and slowly starts stalking closer and closer, you slowly start feeling more and more uncomfortable lying ‘just’ under the protection of your safari vehicle. I am using a 200mm lens and he is about 50 metres away, but still this curious Xini male was so focussed, it humbles you more than any living human being will ever be capable of. #focus #lion #worldlionday #focussingmoment #lions #malelion #lowangle #lowangleshot #lostinbots #wildlifephotography #nature #wildlife #closeencounter #lionshot #reallifelionking #lionking #disney #photographicsafari #okavangolions #wildlife_shots #naturephotography #animal_supershots #wildlifeseekers #wildlifeofinstagram #animallovers #oops #lifeofacampmanager #yourunyoudie

#Repost @natgeo 登頂。 Photo by @beverlyjoubert | At Duba Plains in the Okavango, a five-month-old lion cub claims the top of a termite mound as her own. It's the perfect position to fend off her siblings' playful attacks. She has three siblings her own age and another two eight-month-old cousins, and when they're not sleeping, lion cubs spend most of their time stalking and pouncing on each other. It is important play for a young predator who needs to hone those skills for use in survival later on in life. But she has a lot of growing to still do, as the size of her paws attest, and constant ambushes can be exhausting. The top of a termite mound can give her a small respite while she is still able to swat at any attacks from below. Photo by Beverly Joubert @beverlyjoubert | Up close to the dominant male of the infamous buffalo-hunting Tsaro pride in the Duba Plains in the Okavango. Recently the pride has largely changed its go-to prey to the thriving population of red lechwe. The numbers of these swamp-dwelling antelope have increased enormously in the last decade, since hunting ended on this concession. It's good news for these big cats because the buffalo move seasonally (and are a much more dangerous prey ). But the smaller size of these antelope means that the lions need to hunt more often. Dominant male lions (being male lions ) will take advantage of the lionesses' kills, if possible, rather than expend energy hunting for themselves. How do they know when a kill happens? Often it is by following vultures, whose sudden flocks are quick giveaway of a possible meal. Here the male watches vultures fly overhead before deciding whether or not to follow them. #Thisismytrophy #bigcats #okavangolions #lion

#Repost @beverlyjoubert Little #lostcub … what happened? We share this news with a heavy heart: the remarkable little youngster who somehow ended up in the wrong pride, and fought so hard to survive, has once again disappeared. There’s been no sign of her for the last couple of weeks, and no sign of her original mother, which can only point to a sad outcome: it’s unlikely that she’s made it. We know so many of you were rooting for her. She repeatedly surprised all of us, as did Fekeetsa and the rest of the pride that took her in. This story highlights just how tough it is for an adult lion out there – never mind a tiny, lost cub. If she’s taught us anything, it’s that the fight for survival is incredibly strong and giving up is not an option … even when the odds are insurmountable. And while it wasn’t within our power to save her, we can make a difference for other lions by easing the perfect storm of threats they currently face, especially human-caused dangers like poaching, trophy hunting and habitat loss. We need to conserve as much wild land as we can, and ensure it’s a safe haven for wildlife. We will do all that we can to make that happen, and we hope that you will join our efforts. Goodbye, little lost cub. You were quite something. #lionqueen #lionrecoveryfund #bci #thelionking #landforlions #fekeetsa #dubaplains #okavangolions #bigcatconservation #greatplainsfoundation #futurelionkings

The hunt is on. Low light and dust will help the lions here even though the buffalo are well aware of their presence. With well-practiced ambush roles, the lionesses will see a possibility and work it to their advantage. With herbivores this big and aggressive, it doesn’t do to take chances though. #thisismytrophy #bigcats #lionsofinstagram #okavangolions #lionsvsbuffalo
