Clash of the crash! White rhino bulls are territorial and will engage in fierce battles with other rhino bulls to defend their territory and access to females. The bull on the right is one of Manyonis oldest dominant males having defended a large area for many years and fathering many calves. He is now threatened by a younger male and could potentially be pushed out of his territory. #battleofthebeasts #boyswillbeboys #rhinosofmanyoni #fightclub #wildspaces #wildherds

Manyoni’s waterbuck population suffered during the drought in 2016 and the population declined substantially. We have had two years of good rains and the veld condition has improved significantly and therefore an opportune time to supplement the population. We recently introduced 37 waterbuck and hope this boost will ensure greater population growth going forward.  #growingtheherd #conservationatitsbest #waterbuck #gamecapture #release #wildspaces #populationgrowth #investinginourfuture

Couldn't have said it better ourselves Repost from @manyoniprivategamereserve Let’s get high…for Rhinos! Project Rhino's fixed wing plane in the ZAPwing division is flying for Manyoni on a regular basis in order to support us with crucial aerial surveillance. . This surveillance assists with rhino monitoring, carcass detection, a visual deterrent to poachers, reactions and being the eye in the sky during ant poaching operations. . @projectrhinokzn is a non-profit organisation that provide APU services to many rhino reserves in KZN. Team Manyoni is currently raising money for the upcoming fundraising event “Skydive for Rhino”. Each jumper needs to raise a minimum of R5000, which will go directly towards Project Rhino’s K9 unit and ZAPwing aerial support. . These conservation initiatives are essential for the protection of rhino in KZN. Please help ‘Team Manyoni’ by donating funds towards our skydive, so we can scream our support for rhino conservation when we plunge to the earth from 10.000ft!!! . The more we can raise, the more people can jump, and the more money we can donate to Project Rhinos non-profit cause!! Visit the link below, every cent counts!! https://www.backabuddy.co.za/lets-get-highfor-rhinos

Bees are the most important group of pollinator’s and are essential for our environment. They are pollinating the leading crop types and wildflowers on our planet and alone 50 crop types are dependent on bee pollination in South Africa.  Since a few years, bee populations are suffering from disease, the use of pesticide and other environmental stress. Without bees as a predominant pollinator, lower food production and lower biodiversity of plants are the consequences. Thanks to Marli V.d. Bergh for capturing this bee drinking water at the lodge. During the dryer winter months in Zululand, be sure to keep bird baths topped up for thirsty animals! This elephant bull is having such fun mud bathing. Mud bathing is important for species such as elephant, buffalo, rhino and warthogs. It is not only a fun activity; it helps regulate their body temperature with the cooler mud. It also adds as a layer of skin protection and to protect themselves from parasites. Earlier this week we reported on two dominant males settling a territorial dispute. The southern male can be seen being chased off by the northern male with little regard for the vehicle close by. These males have both lost their larger more dominant brothers recently and are settling this dispute quite modestly. Time will tell who be the victor, watch this space. Clash of the Kings! The dominant northern and southern males are in a stalemate after fighting for dominance through the night. The sounds of these beasts roaring and crashing against each other cuts through the cold winter night and can be heard for kilometres. Can you spot the second male in the grass hiding from his competitor? Photo by @technically_dane

These majestic giants are a keystone species which means that they help define an ecosystem. Without them an ecosystem would be dramatically different or cease to exist. They fill the landscape with their size and presence. Grazing the last patches of green grass before winter comes to Zululand. Photo by Werner le Roux, @african spirit.game.lodge
