And with that information, and the fact that DIETING is the most important predictor of developing an eating disorder, @ww still proceeded to develop an app to encourage children to diet & lose weight. So if there are any mamas, papas, or future parents that follow me, I want to make this loud and clear: It may seem like encouraging your child to lose weight or “watch what they eat” will help to form healthy habits and avoid bullying. However, the research is clear that encouraging those behaviors does NOTHING for health, and just ends up encouraging disordered eating & poor body image. The healthiest thing you can do for you child is encourage them to trust their body, and teach them that bodies come in all shapes and sizes. Shame on you @ww Shame on you.

Authentizität ist mit das wichtigste im Leben, wenn wir echte Beziehungen führen wollen. Echte Beziehungen sind Beziehungen, die auf den Grundwerten Freiheit, Authentizität und persönliche Entwicklung beruhen und die ihre Bereicherung daraus ziehen, dass sich beide Partner entwickeln können wie es ihnen beliebt. Authentizität spielt dabei eine große Rolle - habe ich Angst, mich zu geben, wie ich bin, spiele ich meinem Partner (egal ob Freund/Freundin/Mutter/Vater/usw. ) eine Rolle vor und entferne mich so von meinem Selbst. Look, I think self-love is great. But I don’t think waking up every day and loving every single thing about yourself is realistic at all.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I *do* think self-respect is something that should be practiced every single day.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ No matter how much you ate yesterday, you deserve to eat today. If your stomach is grumbling, that is your body literally trying to tell you something. And drinking a ton of water or chewing gum is not going to do the trick.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Same with exercise. If you took a rest day yesterday and your body is still exhausted and seeking rest, listen to it! It doesn’t mean that you’re not committed or disciplined. It means that you respect your body enough to listen to its cues. Working out as a punishment is the opposite of body respect.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Do I love my body every day? No. Do I appreciate all that my body does for me and in return show it the respect it deserves? Yes. ❤️

- The truth is: invisible Chronic illness ...Feels like two steps forward and one backwards. Like the head and the soul understand how to deal with new flare up and hard times but the body just dont want to feel better. It feels like the body is slowly giving up while I am wide awake. It is the pain that gets more and more during the day and keeps you awake during the night until the tiredness overwhelms me at 3 am and i finally fall asleep. It's the exhaustion that makes me too tired to do anything but too uncomfortable to sleep. It is this second main subject of my studies that I need to carry and take care of it every day next to medicine school fulltime. It is a constant battle against myself and with myself, a love and hate relationship that. This constant numbness when the joie de vivre chokes in a silent moment. It is sitting between to chairs, between "let's work hard to feel better" and "let's just wait until it finally gets bad enough to get help". Chronic illness is this Sharp pain in my lungs and joints on a party where I just try to smile through the pain while everyone else is still dancing. It's the moment when I turn away my face from my family when we sit in this cute cafe because I try not to cry because I can't catch my breath. It's these days in bed when I am too exhausted to get up but I dont tell anyone, because I don't want to bother anyone. And even more: no one can do anything against this anyway. It's the constant try to hide away the illness and the try to not be too much to anyone around me. To not shrink them in their feeling, their being, their actions. Even when the consequence is that I suffer even more in silence. The invisibility of this disease just goes so much deeper than just that you can't see my illness on my surface. And we need to speak up, turn our inside out to make it understandable. But this goes along with so much shame, intimacy and vulnerability than being quite, smiling and pretending to be okay is so much easier. And this is my truth.

Health Tip 12: MINDFUL EATING is a better way to approach eating, it is not a diet. Being a mindful when you eat is being aware of what you are putting into your mouth and why. Are you hungry? Are you full? Are you eating because of an emotion you are feeling? Are you bored? Are you paying attention to your body’s signals or just eating for no real reason? Mindfulness is a very important part of learning to be in touch with your body, your soul and your mind. 6 ways to practice mindful eating: 1. Listen to your body and stop eating when full (listen to your body signals ) 2. Eating when our bodies tell us to eat. (I.e. Stomach growling, energy low; not because of an emotional feeling we are having ) 3. Eating with others at set time and places. (Not random times and places ) 4. Eating foods that are nutritionally healthy (not emotionally comforting food ) 5. When eating, just eat (no multitasking or watching tv etc. ) 6. Consider where the food comes from (it’s not an end product, there will be more ) Be thoughtful when you eat and slow down to enjoy what you are eating. This is a sustainable way to eat. Give it a try. Do you ever eat mindlessly? I know I have and I feel too full and miserable after I do. Double tap if you love Sundays! 💕⠀ •⠀ •⠀ For me, I consider Sunday’s the first day of the week. 📆 And I love starting them at church because it always put me in a positive mental space before I start each week. In today’s sermon at @weareradiant , they talked about how they as a church exist to move people from where they are to where God wants them to be. 🙏 I’m so thankful for sermons like these because they have really helped me with what I do here on Instagram, helping women improve their relationship with food and treat their bodies the way they deserve. ❤️⠀ •⠀ •⠀ For those who have been following me for a while on here, you know I used to focus on weight loss. I enjoyed it, but felt that it wasn’t what I was truly called to do. Eight years ago I went to college to become a dietitian and help women overcome disordered eating (restriction, binging, obsessive food thoughts, etc ) but I got nervous to share my story 😔. I was scared to talk about how I struggled with restriction, binging and purging years ago and scared to talk about how my grandma’s anorexia and aunt’s bulimia affected me as a teen growing up. But a few months ago, God called me to make an impact and help women overcome the struggles I did, develop a healthy relationship with food and eat without stress, guilt or anxiousness. ❤️⠀ •⠀ •⠀ This transition was SO much easier than I thought 💭. Through my faith, all of my fears around sharing my story disappeared, and I feel so comfortable and confident in my approach 👏. I know this is where I need to be, and I love helping women live their best life by eliminating the restrict/binge cycle, feeling confident in their food choices and body, and eating without guilt, stress or anxiousness. Punishing and depriving your body in order to reach a “goal” weight is not healthy. Unfortunately, people in larger bodies are often expected to engage in, or even prescribed, restrictive and disordered behaviours in order to lose weight, with the misguided belief that losing weight always means better health. No matter your size, under-eating and over-exercising are never health-promoting behaviours. Your healthiest weight is where your body naturally settles when you stop dieting and learn to listen to your body.

Burnout and me. At this point last year I was reaching complete emotional capacity. Rocked by vicarious trauma, internalizing the pain of those who were beginning their healing process by opening up to me, feeling the need to be the saviour of those who were hurting, in a sort of extreme empathy which was taking everything I had and leaving me with nothing for myself. At this point last year I was suffering and I wasn’t even aware of it. I was hurtling towards compassion fatigue, burnout, stress which would culminate in me quitting my job, removing myself from the environment I was in and starting from scratch. I had no idea it was coming. There was a bullet train of shit about to hit me hard and I was none the wiser. I didn’t know what the signs of burnout were, I didn’t know my limits, I couldn’t figure out why I felt like I was running on empty and yet I still felt that I couldn’t take any time off work for fear of my full-to-the-brim inbox upon my return. Two months later, in October, when I was regularly crying at work, unable to focus on anything for more than 30 seconds and was just about mustering the energy to send a couple of emails in a working day, when I would cry all day on a Sunday because I knew I was going to have to go back to work, when I had started to abuse my body with alcohol, a strict limit on calories and HIIT workouts 6 days a week (a vain attempt to gain some control in my life ) that’s when I realised I was broken and I didn’t know how to get better. Instead of knowing the signs, reading them, taking the break I needed and allowing myself time to step off the tracks to safety, it wasn’t until the train hit me full force that I realised it was there at all. Burnout is real. It is common. It is dangerous. But it’s easy enough to deal with if you spot it. Rest. Take a fucking rest. Have time off. You need it. Honestly, you do. As someone who didn’t take this advice until reaching the point of no return, TAKE SOME TIME OFF. So on Saturday night I went out down folk week in Broadstairs. I have always loved folk week and especially love the night life. I also love that I can dress in a casual dress and some sandals and not feel out of place. I loved spending time with my friends and chatting to people that I hadn’t seen in ages BUT I felt so insecure that night 😔 the body shaming demons were constantly telling me that people were looking at me and laughing (they probably weren’t ) but this is the reality of how deep my insecurities are. You see this journey isn’t about snapping my fingers and all of a sudden I will never think bad thoughts again, it’s about learning to love my body and learning new ways of thinking. There are going to be times where this happens again but I have to learn from these experiences and keep going.
