Bonjour, Thursday evening, we will open the new Copenhagen Showroom of Kvadrat. This place is a new step of the collaboration we and kvadrat build for some years now. From the original Stockholm showroom that was built more than ten years ago to the recent Semis carpet collection for Danskina or the Roller Blind collection for Kvadrat that we presented last year; the different projects we did together settled an intense field of works and researches. Please feel free to join us for the opening. from 6 pm Klubiensvej 22 2150 Nordhavn, Copenhagen Denmark.

Semis, Danskina, 2017

2.5k20
October 2017

Semis rug is the first project realized with Danskina, the result of two years of intense research. Semis is an exercice in dots and tactility. Geometrically aligned and placed in different rhythms by varying the densities and heights of the rug’s knotted surface, the resulting visual effect is one of an abstract landscape, an aerial view of plantings in a field. There are two designs available, one featuring small dots and the other large dots, and there is a choice of two colourways, black and white in both positive and negative variations. The four rugs offer a range graduating from predominantly black to a mostly white surface. Made in Nepal from handspun Tibetan wool, the construction of Semis is time consuming, using the fine – yet remarkably strong – Tibetan knotting technique. For a 200 cm wide rug, three weavers will work together and complete up to 7 cm a day. After being knotted, the rug is washed and trimmed with scissors. The intentional irregularity of the cut edges creates a beautiful random surface with a handmade touch. It is the allowance of variations – in the shape of the dots, the trimming, and the fact that a number of different weavers will create each rug – that gives every Semis rug a special, personal touch.

Oui for Kunsthal Aarhus, 2017

2.2k20
June 2017

One of four platforms of Oui is a large ring with a fireplace in its center. It becomes a place where people can gather together around the warm embers. The idea of taking fire to the heart of the city reminds us of gathering around bonfires. Contemplating the flames gives rise to moments of collective interaction and daydreaming. Two weeks ago, in the park of Kunsthal Aarhus, in Denmark we presented our new project: Oui. Oui is a series of four different and complementary outdoor sitting installations in the park. Oui derives from Urban Rêveries, exhibition which presented in Rennes a repertoire or a intense research of new forms imaginable in very different urban situations. As Kunsthal Aarhus wished to redevelop with the architect Kristine Jensen its park and create an aperture outward, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec were asked to propose adapting this concept. This wish comes from the will to give more life and conviviality to the space in the city. The installation takes the shape of large discs suited for sitting or reclining. Each installation is a circle platform made of galvanized steel. One of platform is a large ring with a fireplace in its center. They appear to float above the ground, surrounding a tree. As a lighthouse they help to guide people into a warm and colored luminous place in the city. Both pieces concretize the dialogue or relationship between nature and people who are invited to rest and appreciate the seasons which pass in the shade of the trees. Each sitting installation has its own use for every moment of the day or the evening. It can be used as a pedestal or a large collective bench and provide a welcoming place for relaxing, meeting and having conversation with the others.

Quindici Lounge, 2017 #mattiazzi

May 2017

Quindici, 2017 Quindici is after Osso in 2011 and Uncino in 2014 our third collection developed together with Mattiazzi. While the first two collaborations explored the rather computerized manufacturing posibilities of Mattiazzi, Quindici is constructed in a more direct and traditional manner. The plywood backrest and plywood seat are held together by a central wooden bridge. The sides and armrests are build up of wooden planks. Due to its construction there is a strong emphasis on the silhouette which was designed to meet ergonomic demands - the reclined seating position, the headrest and its generous armrests invite to read, to reflect, to relax, to nap... An upholstered version not only adds physical comfort but also colour - all pieces exist in natural, black or grey ash wood. Quindici comes as a Chaise Longue as well as a lounge chair. #mattiazzisrl
