Sharing from @loggerheadmarinelifecenter : As #HurricaneDorian moves along our coast, we are exercising extreme caution. The safety of our guests, volunteers, community and staff is of utmost concern. Due to significant wave and wind action, we do not advise anyone to visit our local beaches right now. However, if you happen to find a sea turtle hatchling, please contact Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (*FWC or 888-404-3922 ) or your local authorities. For individuals near Juno Beach, FL, we have placed our hatchling rescue cooler outside of the front door of our center. When transporting a hatchling, please place the turtle in a bucket with sand and no water to prevent it from accidentally drowning. Sea turtle hatchlings are threatened / endangered animals and should be transported with care. Later this week, we anticipate re-opening our center and will post more information regarding potentially sick, injured or stranded sea turtles in light of the storm. Thank you all for your care, concern and help spreading awareness! #share #pbcparks #beaches #beach #parks #park #seaturtle #psa #awareness #notice #florida #palmbeachcounty #loggerheadmarinelifecenter

Sharing from @loggerheadmarinelifecenter : We have 20,000 reasons to celebrate!! The 9.5 mile stretch of beach that LMC's research team monitors is one of the most densely nested sea turtle beaches in the world, and this year we have over 20,000 nests so far! We have 187 leatherbacks, 13,288 loggerheads and 6,802 greens for a total of 20,277 nests. This total surpasses our last record breaking nesting season in 2017 with a total of 19,085 nests. #share #TurtleTuesday #seaturtlenesting #hatchlings #babyanimals #LoveFL #ThePalmBeaches #PalmBeachCulture #pbcparks #beaches #seaturtles #loggerheadmarinelifecenter #palmbeachcounty

Sharing from @loggerheadmarinelifecenter : We have officially broken our all-time sea turtle nest count, with 19,580 nests!! Our last record breaking nesting season was recorded in 2017 with a total of 19,085 nests. The 9.5 mile stretch of beach that LMC's research team monitors is one of the most densley nested sea turtle beaches in the world! With three months left of nesting season, our researchers expect the nesting numbers to continue to increase by a few more thousand nests. Leatherbacks - 186 Loggerheads - 13,111 Greens - 6,283 While nesting numbers are at an all-time high this year, it’s vital to remember that sea turtles continue to face threats, like plastic pollution. Currently, 100% of post-hatchlings who are admitted to The Sea Turtle Hospital at LMC have ingested plastic. To help try and reduce your use of single-use plastics! #seaurtlenesting #seaturtles #JunoBeach #LoveFL #ThePalmBeaches #PalmBeachCulture #conservation #florida #thepalmbeaches #protect #learn #palmbeachcounty #share #pbcparks #loggerheadmarinelifecenter

Sharing from @loggerheadmarinelifecenter : We have a million reasons to keep our beaches darker and cleaner! According to our nest count and the hatch success of each nest, our 9.5 mile stretch of beach has produced 1,422,692 hatchlings!! With a over a million hatchlings we have over a million reasons why we need your help! Sea turtles are still fighting to survive. It is not known but experts have predicted that approximately 1 in 1,000 to 1 in 10,000 hatchlings reach adulthood. Please do your part and help us keep our beaches cleaner and darker while also reducing your use of single use plastics. #SeaTurtleNestingSeason #LoveFL #PlasticFreeJuly #PlasticFreewithLMC #SaveSeaTurtles #share #pbcparks #beach #beaches #seaturtle #seaturtles #florida #palmbeachcounty #conservation
