Night Lights | Photograph by Anand Radhakrishnan ( @anandkpr77 ) . "I was on my weekly night dive and we ran into a group of very friendly squids. I followed this one for a while and got to its blind spot when I got this image,” writes #YourShotPhotographer Anand Radhakrishnan. “Squids are fascinating animals. Those bright spots are a cluster of proteins called Reflectin which through angle reflection, allows the squid to change its color. By the way, this protein has been patented by the U.S. military… maybe for invisible suits?” — "Delicate. Detailed. Descriptive. Beautifully captured. I am absolutely blown away by the beauty of cephalopods and this one is absolutely titillating! It is so luminous, alien, and almost looks like it encapsulates the entire universe within its body.” — @natgeo Explorer and Creative Conservationist Asher Jay ( @earthheiress )

Just love their expressions. They look like holding hands/wings and so happy, despite the fact that you can see what must have been a very cold wind around their feet! Great work making a portrait of these lovely birds!” — #YourShotPhotographer Nele Horemans

Cool Flames | Photograph by Carolyn Cheng ( @carolynchengphotography ) . “From the air, I photographed the waters of Shark Bay crashing onto the beach many different ways,” writes #YourShotPhotographer Carolyn Cheng. “This image spoke to me the most, as to my delight, the waves look like white flames emanating from the water or, alternatively and metaphorically, like the open and curious fingers or tentacles of an exploratory organism.” — “What an incredible view, Carolyn! I love that you mentioned that the waves look like flames because that's what I thought when I first had this image catch my attention during the daily edits. The colors and textures throughout would make this image for such a beautiful, HUGE print matted on the wall in a frame. I love it.” — @natgeoyourshot Associate Photo Editor Kristen McNicholas ( @kemcnicholas )

This shot was taken off the Kaikoura Coast of New Zealand’s South Island.” — “I love how the shape of the tail mimics the mountains, so simple and beautiful.” — @natgeo photographer Erika Larsen ( @erikalarsen888 )

Lake Bosumtwi Fisherman | Photograph by António Mesquita ( @ajtmesquita ) . “This one million-year-old sacred lake was created when a giant meteorite crashed in what was once a lush rainforest. Lake Bosumtwi is revered by locals as sacred. Souls are said to say goodbye to God here,” writes #YourShotPhotographer António Mesquita. “Therefore, it is forbidden to use boats on the lake, and tradition dictates that they are only allowed to fish in the lake using wooden planks. During July and August, fishing is forbidden altogether because the spirit of the lake is resting.” — “Beautiful!” — @natgeo photographer Maggie Steber ( @maggiesteber )

In Shanghai, China, #YourShotPhotographer Marc Ressang photograph a group of waiters carrying a bathtub full of sparklers and expensive alcohol to a patron's table. — “Wonderful composition and collection of faces. And the looming boss or patron on the right adds a sense of social stratification, perhaps? An image that a viewer can't help but linger on... Dust to Dust | Photograph by José Antonio Zamora . Through clouds of dust, #YourShotPhotographer José Antonio Zamora photographed riders making their journey to El Rocío in southern Spain. Every year, the pilgrimage attracts around a million visitors, who pay homage to an historic and sacred statue of the Virgin Mary. — "Wow! Like an opening scene from a movie... the mysterious strangers riding through the thick dust into the foreground! Love the perspective, the many layers and hues created from the dust, the excitement and the anticipation of what will happen next as this marvelous scene unfolds. Shadow Boxing | Photograph by Sergii Salomatin ( @salomatin sergii ) . Boxers compete in Kiev, Ukraine. "Every moment in the fight is the display of two opposites: one attacks, the other defends," says #YourShotPhotographer Sergii Salomatin. "The unexpected unity of two opposites comes in their hope to win." — “I love how you have chosen the low to the ground POV looking up at this combating moment. The light is phenomenal and adds much to the drama and action. Great idea to observe the essence of 'Opposites' in a sport like boxing! I can feel the turmoil and the powerful undercurrent of emotions that takes this moment beyond the physical expression of 'Opposites' to a blend of fascinating emotions!!!” — #YourShotPhotographer Sukanya De ( @being_sukanya )

Where the Flowers Bloom | Photograph by Libby G. . “Springtime in Texas is full of wildflowers,” writes #YourShotPhotographer Libby G. “This patch of blue and purple flowers was the perfect place to play with my new drone. The flower pattern from above is all Mother Nature’s doing.” — "Wow. This is just amazing! A work of art! You have filled the frame so perfectly and completely with absolutely no distractions at the perimeter. Having the sisters in the center with their arms crisscrossed is an unexpected delight that creates a bit of tension before the eye is engulfed in all those beautiful wild flowers. I would frame this." — #YourShotPhotographer Elizabeth Paoletti

Wave of Fury | Photograph by Oscar Martinez Diego ( @omartinezdiego ) . #YourShotPhotographer Oscar Martinez Diego photographed dramatic winter storms sending crashing waves into Spain's Mouro Island, upon which a lighthouse stands. For decades after its construction in the 19th century, such a storm would have stranded the lighthouse keeper, the island's sole resident. But the light has been automated for almost one hundred years. — "This is amazing! When I first looked at it, for a split second I thought it was snow. You captured it beautifully, and it's powerful and amazing. So full of action I can feel the energy. Love it, Oscar!! : )" — #YourShotPhotographer Janet Ellison

Look Out Below | Photograph by Francois Lallier ( @francoislallier ) . “Discovered and explored in 1972, at more than 1,000 feet deep, the chasm of Aphanicé (Pyrénées ) has the deepest vertical of France,” writes #YourShotPhotographer Francois Lallier. “In January 2019, we decided to go to the bottom of the chasm and take the time to take a picture from the relay at -90m, from the most spectacular view towards the bottom of the ‘Pirates Well.’” — “This is a great attempt at one of, if not ’the’ most challenging photographs in a cave. In these locations, you as a photographer and a caver are tested to the max. You have managed to achieve a great job with the back-lighting. The walls around the figure in the foreground are very well and illuminated with a good balanced range. I particularly like that your eye can travel down the rope, all the way to the second figure hanging on the rope all that way down. That is an important piece to the jigsaw as it extends the length and life of the photograph. Very well done in a very challenging environment.” — @natgeo photographer Robbie Shone ( @shonephoto )

Baby Teeth | Photograph by Yaron Schmid ( @yswildlifephotography ) . “We spotted a pride of lions sleeping on top of the Kopjes in the Serengeti. As we approached the rocks, we saw quite a few cubs,” writes #YourShotPhotographer Yaron Schmid. “The best moment was when three young cubs started playing and biting their mother’s tail, like kittens playing with yarn. I can’t remember a time I laughed so hard.” — "A very endearing moment of joy and playfulness portrayed in this beautiful composition. Love the way you have captured the candid actions and expressions of the cubs, as they played with their mother's tail. Not showing the lioness and only the tail, made it look like a wonderful toy for the little ones. The affectionate presence of the mother could also be felt around the adorable cubs. Love the feeling of leisure and the energy present in this moment." — #YourShotPhotographer Sukanya De ( @being_sukanya )

Lucky Strike | Photograph by Greg McCown ( @tucsonre ) . #YourShotPhotographer Greg McCown has been chasing this image for quite sometime. “After 7 years of trying I finally got my lightning and rainbow picture,” said McCown. “I spent the afternoon chasing storms with a pair of friends from Phoenix. After driving through a microburst on I-10, they decided to head back home. I decided to head back towards Tucson. I stopped in Marana to photograph this beautiful rainbow. It was difficult to find a spot without houses or telephone poles, but I did just in time. This lightning bolt came crashing down within minutes of setting up.” — “This is a perfect example of being in the right moment at the right time. One of those images that make me say "Wow!" at my desk. This is something that doesn't happen every day so I love reading your story about the 7-year journey to capture this photograph.” — @natgeoyourshot Senior Producer Matt Adams ( @themattadams )

My Deer Friends | Photograph by Miroslaw Tran ( @mirek tran ) . Perfect!" Fantastic use of silhouette to capture the peaceful mood in this moment with the gorgeous colors from the rising sun. I love how the respective pair of deer and bird mirror each other's action — on the left, they are looking around while on the right, they appear to be feeding. I love it. Well done Miroslaw.” — @natgeoyourshot Producer David Y. Lee ( @davidylee )

Arabian Red Fox | Photograph by Msaaed Al-Gharibah . “I had been observing the behavior the Arabian Red Fox for more than three months in the desert using three cameras,” writes #YourShotPhotographer Msaaed Al-Gharibah. “The Arabian Red Fox (Vulpes Vulpes arabica ) is a subspecies of the Red Fox and is native to Arabia and has adapted to life in the desert. It inhabits virtually every environment in Arabia, from the cities along the coast to the desert and mountains.” — “Wow! The light in this photo is so sharp and beautiful. Working with an element such as that within your image makes this moment stand out from other wildlife images. If you would have photographed this Red Fox just standing in a field, then it's just a Red Fox in a field, but because you have a nice mix of light and shadows, the photograph just stands out above the rest. It is one of the biggest camel fairs in the world.” — “Couldn't have had a better moment to really draw your eye to the subject through the arches of the camels out of focus in the foreground.
