**Chakra Workshop** Saturday 7th September 1.15pm-3.15pm @yogawestlondon Very excited to teach this workshop because it’s one of my favourite things to teach, learning the philosophy and the energetic dimensions of the practice is what changed everything for me. The postures are fun and interesting up to a point, but there’s a whole realm of practice beyond making shapes with your body, a space that is potent and brimming with magic and there are layers of your being that are waiting to be brought into the light of your awareness. We’ll be looking and feeling into the energetic and subtle elements of movement, breath and meditation, and further, how you can apply all of this to your day to day life. There’ll be a physical practice, mantra, meditation and visualisation. Would love to see you there, no experience of yoga needed, everyone is always welcome. Booking is either through the link in my bio or through @yogawestlondon website 🌈✨🧘‍♀️🙏🏼

Very grateful to have spent the weekend on a yoga for PTSD training with the lovely @shakeyourbuddhi who is a fab teacher and space holder and who you should really go and do a training or a class with if you get the chance to. This kind of thing is not always easy work, but we are living in a time where it’s hugely important for those of us who teach these practices to be trauma informed and sensitive. To expand our understanding, awareness and ability to empathise in a world where we see so many injustices and abuses of power, where we understand that trauma affects a very large percentage of the population. There’s enough evidence out there that shows us that yoga can support the processes of working through trauma alongside of other professional and/or medical forms of treatment like therapy/medication. I came to yoga with my own trauma, and whilst this practice has been life changing, at times it’s also been very triggering and damaging. Certain practices and meditations, forms of pranayama, hands on assists, being told to “sit with” what I’m experiencing when what I’m experiencing is re-traumatising me, all left me feeling like there was something intrinsically wrong and broken within me because yoga was supposed to be helping me. I’m not writing this to blame anyone or to wag my finger around and say I know better than anyone else (because I’m really not an authority on this, I’m not an authority on anything, apart from memes maybe ) rather just to highlight something important that doesn’t get talked about too much on this platform between the “I’m so in demand all my classes are waitlisted” or “here’s a promo code for some shit you don’t need.” The bright side to all of this is that there are wonderful teachers, therapists and researchers who are trauma informed, empathetic, who hold safe spaces and teach us ways of practicing that empower us to come home into our own bodies and to trust ourselves once more. Having been fortunate to learn from some of these people, I share what has been shared with me and continue to study so that I can show up for myself and for others. Not to heal or fix anyone, simply just to share these tools.

**Workshop announcement** Chakra workshop @yogawestlondon Saturday 7th September 1.15pm-3.15pm £25 Chakras are wheels or energy centres that correspond to different areas of the body, as well as our psychological, emotional and spiritual states. In this workshop we will look at the seven main Chakras: what Chakras are, where the information we have on them originates from, where they are, what they do and how we can incorporate this knowledge into our asana, pranayama and meditation practice. There will be a short talk and explanation, meditation, visualisation, mantra (chanting ), pranayama (breathwork ) and a physical asana practice that will be energetically sequenced to follow the seven Chakras. All levels are welcome. Booking is through @yogawestlondon website, hope to see you there 🙏🏼💫

I’ve been reading lots about flow and flow state recently, mostly stuff by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. He writes about flow state and how being immersed in what we are doing and the processes of being in flow state are what bring us happiness rather than the outcome of what we’re doing. This has been on my mind lots recently as I’ve gotten back into creative practices like painting and writing again. And of course, all of this relates back to yoga because once yoga finds you, you can’t really escape that yoga is life and life is yoga. Not in a weird codependent way, just in the realisation that all things exist in and one another and are not separate. What I’ve come across in my own practices and in teaching, is our fear of being wrong and/or bad. We always want to know that we’re right so that we can be “good”, we have an addiction to knowledge and we forget to develop critical thinking and to expand our consciousness beyond the realm of right and wrong. We want to put somebody else on a pedestal and have them tell us what’s “right”, we think that we can’t be as intelligent or inspirational as they are, staying stuck in a pattern of blindly consuming everything they tell us because of whatever qualification they have (or how many followers they have lol ) and shunning our own inner teacher and innate wisdom. But being in flow means exploration, it means asking questions, it means going on a journey and it is essentially the essence of being alive. We love being linear, we love saying “I’ll study this so I can get that job. I’ll do xyz to not feel so broken anymore” etc but the reality is that linear thinking doesn’t serve us. It serves capitalism and money making, but it does not serve us on a deep soul level and it is certainly not conducive to healing. Being in flow requires presence and vulnerability because we can’t control outcomes, but this is where I’ve found yoga comes in really handy. If we practice some of the things Patanjali outlines in the yoga sutras then the state of flow is supported. Tapas (discipline ) creates a strong framework and boundaries for exploration and flow and prevents it from turning to chaos, (continued in comments below )👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼

Hey pals! Next Saturday 6th July 2pm-4pm I will be teaching a crow workshop @lumipoweryoga You don’t need to be able to do crow to do this workshop, we’ll spend the time looking at different variations of crow, drills and things you can do to prepare you for lift off, and transitions in and out of crow (like jumping back into chaturanga and going into tripod headstand ) as well as side crow. Bring yourself, your curiosity and your sense of humour if you can, it’s always good to remember that the poses are fun and interesting to learn because they can give us access to feeling the joy of movement and being in our bodies, but the really advanced yoga shows up not in you balancing on your hands, but in how you respond to the daily stuff that winds you up, like people pushing into you on the tube, cutting in line at the coffee shop etc... booking is in the link in my bio or through @lumipoweryoga website, hope to see you there 🐥🚀✨

Hey pals! I am teaching a headstand and forearm balance workshop next Saturday 18th May 2pm-4pm at @lumipoweryoga You don’t need to be able to do either of these poses to come, in fact that’s the whole point of it! We’ll look at ways of breaking down these poses, modifications and ways of making them accessible for your body and your practice. We’ll also practice drills and things you can do if you’re not quite ready to fly up just yet but would like to build the strength and stability to do so, and other variations you can do if you’re up there. The aim is not for you to perform and execute physical poses perfectly, rather we’re looking to ignite that part of you that is curious and playful, the part that wants to have a go, and sees falling over as a stepping stone towards success. What I’ve discovered in my own practice and want to share with you is that the success lies in finding joy and delight in being able to move and express through your physical body, not in achievement or attainment... Link to book is either on @lumipoweryoga website or the workshop section in the link in my bio, hope to see you there! 🙏🏼💚
