This past Saturday was my birthday and my brother's engagement. In my culture, an engagement is called the "mangna" and symbolizes the joining of two families. A formal ceremony is held where the groom to be's sisters get the bride to be ready. Traditionally (like years ago ), the bride would get her hair, makeup and dressing done by the sisters of the groom. - Essentially, this event symbolizes that the bride to be is now part of the groom's family and vice versa. - We celebrated in true Maan Family fashion with our goats and our beautiful farm ❤️ - Outfit: @bchicbyrajikhaira HMUA: @velourstudio Jewelry: @mohvi creations

This guy is turning 60 in a few days ❤️ - Everything you do, you do with so much heart. You do it all for us. You are always there. You are always the one we call. And you never ask anything in return. You're almost 60 Dad, but your heart and mind are still 25. Thanks for being the best and for always reminding us of the silver lining in everything ✨

I think one of my biggest mind shifts over the past year within business has been about becoming familiar with uncertainty. - When I left my corporate job, I left a place of certainty. Corporate world is full of organization, processes and regulations which creates a level of certainty when it comes to decision making. - Working for myself and within a family business is whole lot different and very uncertain. - Uncertainty is also the unknown. I read somewhere that the heart of anxiety is the fear of the unknown. So many of our thoughts are focused on the 'what ifs'. We spend so much of our time contemplating and avoiding uncertainty that we often miss opportunities because we either can't get ourselves to make a decision for the fear of failing or we just convince ourselves we're better off with things staying the same and we end up with the exact same lives year after year. - Analysis paralysis is often what results from the fear of the unknown. We just keep analyzing in circles without going anywhere. - One of the simplest examples of this has to do with Netflix. Have you ever scrolled through Netflix looking at all the options but then end up watching something you've seen before because you're certain it's going to be good?! This has now become a "thing". We're too scared of the unknown that we can't even take a chance on a new TV show 🤷🏽‍♀️ - We can become comfortable with uncertainty with Courage and Self-trust. - We have to trust that we have everything we need to brave the uncertain waters of life and we need courage to get ourselves into the waters. Just taking small steps each day creates a big impact... start with a new Netflix show ❤️ - 📸 @dylainagollubphotography

MAMA 💕 - Growing up, I was always closer to my Dad than my Mom. I yearned for that mother daughter relationship and could never figure out why we didn't get each other. - But now, after working and living together full time for almost 2 years, I can honestly say she has become my best friend. - My mom, came to Canada when she was only 21 years old. She was newly married and within the year she would have her 1st child. - Assimilating into western culture and sorting through the effects of diaspora took its toll on both of my parents. - They had to overcome racism, financial stress and identity crisis while sorting through the turbulences of parenthood and building a new home in a foreign land. - My mom, as an immigrant Punjabi woman, fought hard to hold onto her voice which was often silenced by patriarchy. - Her creative and innovative mind lead her to turn farming into tourism. Instead of just growing and selling crops, she decided to bring some animals to our farm and open her doors for others to visit and experience agriculture. - Her innovative mindset and creativity paid her dividends. But mostly it was her fierce work ethic and determination to not let her circumstances define her that lead to her achievements. - I am so honoured to work alongside a strong woman who has paved the way for other women like me to go after their dreams and not let the messages of patriarchy define us. - My mom always encourages and reminds me that I can do anything. She is a boss. Not a bossbabe but a boss. - How lucky and proud I am to have such a role model in my life. Thank you Mama❤️

Lots of things happening right now on the farm. - Goat Yoga started back up - it's now our second year. Strawberries are planted and it's almost harvest time. We're getting the market ready and our grounds. And EASTER!!🐰 - We do a big egg hunt each year for families but this year we're doing something called Bunnies & Booze. It's basically an egg hunt for adults where we'll be serving our own fruit wines & beer from @tradingpostbrewing along Punjabi food 👌🏾🔥 - It's our first year doing it and I must say it's superrr nerve wracking but so exciting! - Easter to us signals the start of a new season and a new year working & growing together as a family. ❤️💫 . . . 📸 taken at Sydney Opera House in Australia

That's the thing about finding peace, we search and search for it. We even make all sorts of rules for ourselves and others. . We think if I just meditate for exactly 10 minutes, do yoga and write in my gratitude journal I will be peaceful. . But you see, it's not by doing all of the "things" that we become at peace. . We cultivate peace through acceptance of what is. It's not when this happens or when that stops I'll be at peace - it's created in the art of allowing, allowing it all to be and choosing to be with it without judgement. . . 📸: taken infront of a speakeasy style restaurant in Atlanta, Georgia. I liked the neon "M" and, particularly, that shadow.

We started #TheMaanFamily vacation in Hawaii. On the way to Australia, we stopped in Honolulu for two nights to break up our 30 hr journey (thank God 🙈 ). - It really had been ages since we had gone on a trip as a family together. . @gauravmaan94 was still in South Africa jumping out of planes and off of bridges while the 4 of us basked in the sun in Hawaii (he was meeting us in Melbourne ). . Hawaii is a magical place for me, I was in Maui in 2017 for a wellness retreat and this time in Honolulu with my family. - Its a soothing place. Besides the nostalgia of my previous trip and the endless waves + sun, there's magic in the air there I swear. Such a great introduction to relaxing and letting go. Often times, it takes a while for us to truly get into "vacation mode" but with Hawaii it was easy. . I felt so at peace, so connected with Mother Nature. While just observing the waves of the ocean I received so many reminders of perfection that I couldn't help but feel a sense of surrender and ease. Letting go became effortless. Until next time, Hawaii ❤️

In January, I travelled to Atlanta for @americasmartatl -one of the largest retail buying shows in North America. - My NAFDMA Family was a huge lifesaver helping me navigate through the 3 buildings of 20 floors each! Some of these Farms have been travelling to the show for 20 years while this was my 2nd time. - A special thank you to Jenny from @tannersorchard for letting me tag along and be a fly on the wall as they shopped ❤️ - This was an epic night 🎉 #farmerfriends #farmfamily

Me at @poncecitymarket in ATL matching with my old fashioned 👌🏾 #donalddraper - So, I've been journaling a lot lately and no, it's not just because it's the new year (I try not to participate in resolutions, it's not my thing ). I do something called stream of consciousness writing where I just write and write. I don't think about what I'm writing I just write whatever comes up in that moment. - It's like a brain dump. Once you get the hang of it - and I say this because at first my perfectionist brain couldn't wrap my head around not writing for a purpose and it took me a while to loosen up and let go of control and just write - but once you get the hang of it it's quite cathartic. - Some people do what they call 'Morning Pages', it's pretty much the same thing but you must fill 3 pages. Google it for more info and also check out Julia Cameron's book Artist's Way. 🎈

So many changes. So many blessings. Our last event of the year is our Christmas Market. ❄️🎄 . It's been such a beautiful year full of newness, creativity + growth. . So much gratitude for the opportunity to work with my family. . To have them be a source of strength and courage. To get to work as a team all on the same side with 1 goal. . I think our hearts are the most full when we stop and take note of it all. When we allow it all to soak in. ❤️ . Happy almost December ☃️

I had a full circle moment yesterday when I was interviewed by @rj_shushma for her tv show "Women in Focus". . If you asked me two years ago if I could imagine being on tv telling my story on a show about strong & courageous women, I would have scoffed and said no way. I think many of us don't take the time to give OURSELVES credit for how far we've come and for what we've overcome. In my interview I share my story about my struggles with the effects of #diaspora and learning how to be a Punjabi woman in a Western world. I also discuss how I overcame childhood trauma and turned my struggles into a gift to coach other women to become the best version of themselves. . I think if more #Punjabi Women tell their stories, together we can shine a light on topics that hold us captive and release their grip. After all, vulnerability leads to strength. My interview with Shushma airs October 28th on Omni ❤️

Being back on the farm has been the perfect remedy for my soul that ached for its roots. My return to the soil where I first learned how to walk and where my food truly comes from, has been a humbling and nourishing experience. After living in Yaletown in downtown Vancouver for the past 5 years, I have decided to come back home. I quit my corporate cushy job and now I create for a living. I create experiences, I create community, I create impact, I create joy and I create memories. It's such a wild ride this life. Who knew I would be writing this post planning my next Goat Yoga event and talking to my Mama about how to perfect our tandoori chicken burger. You can make all of the plans and lists that you want but whatever is meant to be will flourish and whatever or whomever is meant to go will go. I've learned to TRUST and to let go. Two of the most important practices in this crazy unpredictable life - and to always drink good wine 😍 See you at the farm ✌🏽❤️ - 📸 @alexandrahpahl

Keep Calm and Eat a Strawberry. Strawberries are natural headache soothers. They contain salicylates which is an ingredient found in aspirin. And if that doesn't work: Drink some Maan Farms Strawberry Raspberry Wine 🍷😋👏🏽

Creativity is an act of defiance. You're challenging the status quo. You're questioning accepted truths and principles. You're asking three universal questions that mock conventional wisdom: - "Why do I have to obey the rules?" "Why can't I be different?" "Why can't I do it my way?" - -Twyla Tharpe, The Creative Habit

Strawberry Season is a precious and sacred time for my family. I remember when I was 12 years old, running around with my older sister & little brothers between the rows making up games to play in the field while my Mama and Pops tried to make a living as immigrants in a new land. They had no idea what they were doing. Just selling baskets of these juicy red nuggets one by one trying to pay the bills. We cherish our strawberries year after year because they literally gave us life. They helped get us to where we are today. They are where our hearts live. The soil stores the memories of our struggles and tears but also where the fruits of our labour are generated. There is so much history, so much love between these rows. So Cheers. Cheers to June. Cheers to Strawberries. And cheers to Family ❤️
